"It was a film festival in Las Vegas, of all places, where Bubba Ho-tep had its first public screening. Bruce Campbell and I had introduced the film and we were now in our seats watching the first public reaction to the film. As howls of laughter erupted from the crows, and it became apparent that the audience was digging Bubba Ho-tep, we both were able to relax, sit back and enjoy the show. Bruce had leaned over to me and said two words. I guess I was expecting him to say something like, "They love it", or "Don, you're a genius", or "Damn, I'm a good actor". Instead he said something unexpected but profound… "Great soundtrack". And it was.

Our music supervisor, Daniel Schweiger, originally introduced me to Brian Tyler's music during the editing of Bubba Ho-tep when he gave me a copy of his Six String Samurai score. I loved the strong thematic material and raw guitar sound of that soundtrack. For many months during editing, our film was tracked with "temp" music taken from that Samurai CD.

Working with Brian was a treat as he is not only a brilliant composer and performer, but also an intelligent, artistic collaborator. Brian instinctively understood Bubba Ho-tep and his nuanced score supported not only the broad physical comedy but also the intrinsic heroic nature of the film. Brian's use of his powerful Bubba Ho-tep theme as Elvis and JFK roll down the rest home hallway on their way to do battle with the evil Egyptian is both moving and hilarious… always eliciting cheers from the audiences.

Brian Tyler made an essential contribution to our film. He added a depth and elegance to Bubba Ho-tep while creating a score that I think even the real Elvis would have liked."
